Britton Middle School’s Fa Saulala broke a 21-year-old
junior-high shot put record on the way to taking first place in the
East Section track and field championships
MORGAN HILL — Britton Middle School’s Fa Saulala broke a 21-year-old junior-high shot put record on the way to taking first place in the East Section track and field championships.

The eighth-grader threw a staggering 40 feet, five inches at the 22-team meet, eclipsing the previous-best mark set in 1988. Saulala also took first in long jump (14-04) and discus (87-09).

Britton seventh-grader Alyssa Pham won multiple events as well in triple jump (27-04) and the mile. Austin Chenoweth scored for Britton in high jump as did Cameron Moeller in discus, Mike Bergantz in shot put and Nicolas Herrmann-Ruff in the 1,600 and 800 meters.

Britton sent the following 20 athletes to league finals: Josh Acosta, Kyle Alexander, Annalise DiSalvo, Hanna Doting, James Gabbard, Emily Guthormsen, Janice Kim, Austin Langford, Juliet Olsen, J.P. Priest, Kyle Robertson, Troy Schueffele, Heather Sjostedt, Ashton Robertson, Savannah Trewman and Tula Urban.
