SACRAMENTO — The club rugby team from Live Oak High School finished 1-2 in Saturday’s 25th annual Kick Off Tournament at Sacramento’s Granite Regional Park.

Playing in the Bronze Division, the Acorns lost their opening game, 15-0, to Lancer Rugby.

Live Oak bounced back in the second round, though, shutting out the Berkeley Rhinos 20-0. Junior prop Erik Poulsen scored two tries and seniors Nick Ferguson and Alex Muhn added one apiece. No tries were converted.

In their final match, the Acorns dropped a fiercely contested match, 19-7, to intraconference foe Silicon Valley. Poulsen scored his third try of the day with Muhn converting.

Live Oak opens Skyhawk Conference play Saturday against College Park at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose. The game time has not been determined.
