Red Phone: Ross reportedly to reopen at dd’s Discounts

Hello Red Phone, I heard that dd’s Discounts on Dunne Avenue and
Monterey Road will be closing. Is that true? Or is Ross just taking
over?

“Hello Red Phone, I heard that dd’s Discounts on Dunne Avenue and Monterey Road will be closing. Is that true? Or is Ross just taking over?”

Dear Is it True? Red Phone contacted Garrett Toy, Business Assistance and Housing Services Director, who said Ross reports that the dd’s Discounts will be replaced with a Ross store, and “may be slightly expanding,” Toy said.

So there you have it good caller. The recently closed Ross appears to be reopening, albeit in a different location.

Clear picture comes after adjustments

“I just finished reading the concerns encountered by Converted. He had installed the converter box but could not get channels 2, 4, 5-CBS, 7-ABC, 9, 8-NBC and 11-NBC. I have a very good outdoor VHF/UHF antenna and had a similar problem. After contacting the stations and following the suggestions on antennaweb.org they suggested I look at my antenna cable as it was more than 10 years old. They advised that the new digital channels require a shielded coax cable (RG-6) from the antenna to the converter box rather than the old analog coax cable (RG-59) or a twin lead.

Sure enough I had the old analog coax cable, so I installed a new double shielded coax cable and things got better. I was able to get all the channels, except 5-CBS was still intermittent. In contacting 5-CBS, they told me their digital antennas are at the bottom of the Sutro Tower and so I may be getting multi-path interference. They said I may be able to resolve this if I raise my antenna 5 to 10 feet or just wait. By September 2009 they intend to remove their old analog antennas and move their digital antennas to the top of the Sutro Tower which should help. I also discovered that I had to upgrade my splitter that fed three TVs from the old analog splitter to a new digital splitter. I now get the best picture I’ve ever seen on my old TVs.”

Dear Converted and Glad, Red Phone is overwhelmed with all the techno-lingo, but thanks you for providing other readers with solutions to the problem.

A new development in the works?

“I noticed that there seems to be a new development in the works on Cochrane Road on the opposite side from the Target center. Do you know what is going in?”

Dear Wondering, Red Phone contacted Planning Manager Jim Rowe, who said at this time there are no plans to develop out there.

“The land is on the south side of Cochrane Road between DePaul Drive and the Madrone Channel and U.S. 101,” he said. “The city issued a stockpile permit to allow soil excavated under a separate grading permit to be stored on this site.”

So good caller, that is what is happening out there at this time.
