The Morgan Hill Gamers won the 9U NTCB Labor Day Tournament at Twin Creek/Wilcox High School over the Labor Day weekend.
After going 1-2 on Saturday/Sunday, the Gamers earned the fourth seed in the Monday Pool Play Championship. They went 3-0 beating the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to secure the championship after taking down the No. 5 seed to open the knockout round.
Ryan Murray won the Most Valuable Player Award by NTCB in 9U. Caleb Elam and Cody Thomas followed with timely performances and stand up plays by Joey Schroder, Dominic Pereira, Eddie “X Factor” Benitez, Joshua Alvarez, Zach Enderle, “Speedy” Bo Rizzi, “Sticky Hands” Steven Anaya and the muscle of the team, Aaron Valdez.
“The team never got down, never even realized they had lost a couple and never thought that the huge competition in front of them was even a threat,” said Manager Nick Rizzi. “They had the Championship in their heads from game one of six and never relented until the final out.  I’m so proud of their performances and heart.”
This makes a back-to-back tournament run.  The Gamers won in Tracy as an 8U team a few weeks prior and took the West Zone Baseball Pinto Sectional before that.
