Morgan Hill – The Morgan Hill Junior Pee Wee Raiders ended their scoring drought when Drew Glines burst into the end zone with 1:46 left in the first quarter to stake the Raiders to a 6-0 lead over the second Place Santa Clara Lions, but that was it in a 24-6 loss.
After the ensuing kick off, the Raiders defense held strong, in spite of giving up a first down, strong tackling and solid play from Matthew Bellah and Garrett White led to stopping the Lions cold and it appeared the Raiders were going to have their way this Sunday.
It was not to be. The Raiders could not muster another First down in the half and with 2:05 left in the half, the defense, which had spent most of the quarter on the field, succumbed to the play fake offered by the Lion’s quarterback, who then found a receiver deep down field for a 29 yard TD toss. This left it all tied at 6-6 at the half.
After the Raiders received the kickoff to start the second half, a series of turnover trades occurred and the Lions eventually cashed in on a fumble and scored to take a 12-6 lead. Duran blocked the extra point to swing the momentum Morgan Hill’s way but turnovers gave the ball back to Santa Clara and two fourth-quarter tuochdowns put the game away.
