Red Phone

Dear Red Phone,

“We received a billing statement from a company called CryWolf asking us to pay a $53 registration fee to register our alarm system and to comply with the City’s new ordinance ‘False Alarm Reduction Program.’ I was wondering if you would know if this billing statement is legitimate and the City of Morgan Hill contracted CryWolf to manage this program. I checked the city’s website and could not find anything about the False Alarm Program. Thank you!”

Dear reader, the following is a response from the City’s Support Services Manager Patti Yinger. We hope you find this helpful:

“On June 3, 2009, the City Council of the City of Morgan Hill adopted Ordinance 8.48 related to requests for police response to burglar alarms. As a result of this revised ordinance, additional requirements were placed on alarm owners and alarm companies. The ordinance has been reviewed by and is supported by the California Alarm Association and the Silicon Valley Alarm Association. All alarm owners are now required to register their burglar alarm systems and renew the registration annually. To register your alarm please click to go to the CryWolf website or you may call CryWolf at (877) 893-5268.”

Patti Yinger can be contacted via email at pa**********@mo********.gov.
