Korey Vu

Korey Vu, a 17-year-old senior at Sobrato High School, is this week’s “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
My family inspires me everyday to study hard because ultimately they want me to have a good life and I want the same for them too.
Favorite subject in school:
Science, like Chemistry and Biology, would have to be one of my favorite subjects because there is always something new and exciting when we do experiments. It is very hands on and being able to come out with your own results makes it all the more satisfying.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Giving everyone the opportunity to thrive and become successful in life because we all have potential, but sometimes not enough resources.
If you could go anywhere:
I really want to go to Kentucky. My main reason is to explore Mammoth Cave and there are a couple of dishes I want to try.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
Making the best with what I was given. I have struggled with diabetes for 13 years and both of my parents are unemployed, but I do not let that get in the way of my goals.
Dream job:
I want to become a pharmacist because medicine has played a key role in my life.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? I would definitely need water, food, and my insulin.
Favorite book:
“The Zombie Room” by R.D. Ronald.
Plans post-high school:
Go to a four-year college to get my degree and hopefully move out.
Something that makes you smile:
Seeing others smile and knowing that everything is going to be all right.
