The freshman pitched Sobrato to a 10-0 win over Oak Grove on Monday and provided four hits.

Morgan Martinelli and Machenzie Mitchell both went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead Sobrato High’s softball team to a 10-8 win at Westmont on Tuesday.

Marissa Heffernan also went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division.

Kayla Rooney (two RBIs) and Jasmine Caskey added two hits each for the Bulldogs, who pounded out 17 hits.

Winning pitcher Sammi Torres went 1-for-3 at the plate for Sobrato.

Torres, a sophomore, has been a catalyst in Sobrato’s solid start coming off 2012, when the Bulldogs won a BVAL title with a 12-2 league record.

Torres, a first-team all-league pick last season, is 7-2 in the circle and leads the Bulldogs with 15 RBIs and a .730 slugging percentage.

Sobrato also returned all-league honorees in first-team pick Heffernan, first-team pick Mitchell and second-team pick Martinelli.

“The outlook is that we will be competitive in the Mount Hamilton Division this year,” Sobrato coach Leonard Torres said.

Heffernan, a sophomore shortstop, is batting .280 after moving from second base last year.

Mitchell, a sophomore catcher, is hitting .350.

Martinelli, a sophomore third baseman, leads the team with a .510 batting average.

The Bulldogs also are counting on Rooney, the only freshman to make the team. The first baseman is batting .400.

Sobrato has relied on a deep lineup that also includes sophomore second baseman/pitcher Macie Blakeman, juniors center fielder Heather Sjostedt and left fielder Kasey Cockerill, and seniors outfielder/second baseman Caskey, outfielder Alyssa Jimenez and outfielder/catcher Sydnee Sorce.
