Live Oak to face Independence in battle of 0-3 teams
Morgan Hill – It’s three weeks into the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division football season and Live Oak is still looking for its first league win.
The Acorns (2-4, 0-3 BVAL) will look to end that tonight when they host winless Independence at 7pm on Homecoming Night.
Live Oak dropped a tough one last week when it saw a 21-13 halftime lead evaporate in a 28-21 loss to Branham and the players know what its going to take to get on track.
“Hard work in practice and heart,” senior running back Kevin Abbott said after last week’s loss. “We need to finish the game. We need a win in league. We haven’t got one.”
Abbott had a typically stellar game last week, running for a season-high 185 yards on 30 carries. He’s racked up 817 yards this season, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
Junior quarterback Timothy O’Rourke threw his second touchdown pass of the season last week – a 30-yard strike to Kyle Hennings – and has completed 14 of 26 passing for 151 yards this season.
The 76ers (0-6, 0-3) enter the game on the heels of a 15-10 loss to Piedmont Hills, their closest game of the season. With Oak Grove, Branham and Leigh still on the schedule, a loss here could likely put Independence in position for a winless season.
