Morgan Hill – Councilman Mark Grzan has been appointed mayor pro tem for 2006. He was nominated by Mayor Dennis Kennedy.
“It’s a great honor,” Grzan said. “I appreciate the council giving it to me.”
The mayor pro tem serves as mayor when Kennedy can not attend a function and presides over meetings in Kennedy’s absence.
“I hope you’re ready for a lot of ribbon cutting and functions,” Kennedy said at Wednesday’s council meeting.
Councilman Steve Tate, the current mayor pro tem, joked that Kennedy attends most functions, but has a habit of being absent when it’s raining.
“I do always seem to be available for the good ones,” Kennedy replied.
Grzan later said he’s ready to assume the position’s larger workload.
“It’s a lot of work,” Grzan said. “I’m overwhelmed, but I’m prepared for it. It’s a good time to be mayor pro tem because we’re going into our centennial celebration. I’m very proud of that. It’s a great community with good people.”
