Sobrato had 12 players score as the boys water team defeated Live Oak 21-11 in the final game of the regular season.
Up next is the Blossom Valley Athletic League tournament for both teams to determine who will represent the BVAL at the Central Coast Section playoffs.
Sobrato will receive a bye to start the tournament and will begin play Nov. 7 at Independence. Live Oak will open against Santa Teresa Division No. 1 Lincoln Nov. 6 at Independence.
Live Oak will play its game at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 6
In the regular season finale, both teams played all of their varsity squads, plus some of their junior varsity teams.
Sobrato made sure the game was put away early then started getting players pool time.
“(They’ve) been working hard all year, especially the seniors, they played a great season heading into the playoffs,” said Sobrato coach David Letts. “Nick (Funke), Luke (Northcott) have improve tremendously. Connor (Bleeg) and Andre (Popescu) coming off the bench. They’ve just been great leaders in the pool and outside the pool.”
The Bulldogs took advantage of their speed early on, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
Funke started the scoring with a goal on Sobrato’s second shot of the game. He finished the game with four goals to lead the Bulldogs.
Bleeg was second with three goals.
Sobrato had five goals in the second quarter, then added four more in the third and five more in the fourth.
The Bulldogs had 21 goals on an efficient 26 shots.
Net minder Northcott had 18 saves in the effort.
Meanwhile, Live Oak’s Alan Finguerman led all shooters with six goals.
The Acorns had four goals in the second and third quarters with two more in the fourth.
Coach Ryan Gautschi said the effort by his players, especially since the start of the season, has been great.
“It was the best game I’ve seen them play all season. Every game, we want to improve on our last game,” Gautschi said.
