Red Phone

Dear Red Phone,
“I am writing to you with a question to the city. It’s about the new Butterfield and Watsonville Rd. connection. Where Monterey Rd Meets Watsonville has a huge bump and I want to know if that is going to be FIXED?? This bump has been there  from the start of the project and really should have been eliminated from the start.  Sounds like I am going to lose my front end or doing major damage when I hit it to Crosse the intersection.  This is dangerous please find out what the heck is going on??”
Dear reader, the following is a response from Senior Civil Engineer Julie Behzad with the City. We hope you find this helpful:
“The bump you are referring to is a temporary transition lip between the final lift of asphalt on Monterey Road and the first lift of asphalt on Watsonville Road. These are typical during construction. The final lift of asphalt on Watsonville Road is anticipated to be complete within a few weeks and this will eliminate the lip. Until then, we will ensure that the contractor keeps the lip filled with temporary asphalt to minimize the impact.”
