E Is For Education

Dear Editor,

The May 5 Barbecue for Better Education was a huge success. The support from our community was overwhelming. The event included attendees from the Morgan Hill City Council, including the honorable Mayor Kennedy, Morgan Hill Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Alan Nishino, school principals, Chamber of Commerce representatives and many supportive parents. We welcomed more than 400 participants to promote better education for the children of the Morgan Hill Unified School District.

We would like to thank our inspiring speakers, Assemblyman John Laird, D-Santa Cruz, and Greg Sellers, Morgan Hill City Council member, and former Live Oak High School band member.

As the evening progressed at the fabulous Guglielmo Winery we listened to the Sobrato and Live Oak jazz bands. Smiles were readily available as we watched presentations in drama, art, agriculture, ROP fashions, and technology. Many thanks go out to the teachers and staff that organized and implemented the fabulous presentations.

On June 6 voters will have the opportunity to pass a parcel tax to benefit district students – Measure E. Voter approval of Measure E would provide $1.1-$1.5 million in annual funding to our schools for a period of five years by assessing a $96 annual tax per parcel ($8 per month per parcel).

Seniors 65 and older will have the option of applying for an exemption.
