Seven seniors say farewell to Acorns’ roller hockey team after
11-3 loss in semifinals
The Live Oak roller hockey team won the championship in its first two seasons and had its mind set on number three.
The Acorns started their attempt at a three-peat by defeating St. Lawrence 5-3 in the first round of the playoffs.
Junior Brian Costello scored twice, both on assists from fellow junior Kyle Dutra. Senior Brian Morrison added goal on an assist from senior Calvin Kiss, and senior Chase Norman assisted a goal by Conner Williamson.
That win sent Live Oak to the semifinals to face Westmont with a chance to advance to the championship game.
But Westmont proved to be too strong, beating the Acorns 11-3.
Costello again scored two goals and senior Dustin Holt added a goal but it wasn’t enough.
The Acorns finished the season 7-4 and in a second place tied with Westmont.
In the championship game, Los Gatos beat Westmont to claim the title.
Live Oak said its good-byes to seven seniors after the loss to Westmont.
Ricky Lasher, who was in his first season as a goalie after the Acorns were left without anyone to fill the position, will be tough to replace. He will now take his game to an adult ice hockey league.
Senior Robert Kotval, who also plays ice hockey, was a four-year player for Live Oak. Norman, another exiting senior, played for the Acorns for the last two seasons and also plays on an adult roller hockey team.
Holt has also played for the last two seasons with the Acorns and additionally plays ice hockey.
Kiss, Morrison and Alex Prado all joined the team this season. Kiss and Morrison both had previous roller hockey experience and Prado has played ice hockey
The team will begin its rebuilding process with a search for a goalie and players for next year. Anyone interested in trying out next year are encouraged to e-mail the team at li***********@***oo.com.
