The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center in Morgan Hill introduces the newest member of its educational team: A female saw-whet owl rescued in July in Aptos after suffering a fractured left wing and nerve damage that makes her permanently unable to fly.
But this little girl is nameless, and WERC would like input from the community on what she should be called.
The contest is open to everyone and if a duplicate name is submitted, winner will be determined by earliest submission. The winner will receive a one-year sponsorship of the owl, a personalized certificate with owl’s photo, a WERC owl T-shirt and a surprise prize.
Entries must be received by Jan. 3. The top three finalists will be chosen by WERC and the winner will be chosen by Times/Dispatch staff and announced Jan. 10.
Send your name submission, the reason/meaning behind the name, along with your name, email address and phone number via email to

we**@we*****.org

with subject line “Contest”; or mail to P.O. Box 1105, Morgan Hill, Ca. 95038. Entries must be received by Jan. 3.
