Gas StationRoad Rage
“My 1-year-old daughter was involved in an altercation where an adult male was blocking all four entry lanes into Safeway gas station. She, along with two other cars, pulled into the appropriate lanes. The adult male got out of his car, banged on his window and started yelling at my child.
“The situation escalated when he tried to hit her car, and other men came to her defense. This then turned into a melee, where fists were about to fly. When the attendant finally came out and asked what was going on, the instigator said used profanity and cursed at my daughter. When the attendant pointed out that he saw him blocking all lanes, he went off again. My daughter and her 14-year-old sister are tramatized by this. I cannot believe how some adults behave.
“Under no circumstances should any adult ever be allowed to treat others, especially a minor in this manner. Many thanks to the men who stood up to this bully and told my daughters to ignore his comments as he is an ignorant jerk. We do have his license plate and have contacted the police department.”
RED PHONE
Red Phone is appalled that your family had to go through something like this. You did the right thing contacting the police department. We hope this guy gets the full lesson of the law. We join in thanking those that came to your daughter’s aid.
This incident is another reminder that in a free society, we are all sometimes at risk and must take any precautions we feel necessary to stay safe.
Get out there and walk
“Have you tried crossing this city on foot? We need trails to connect so that folks of all ages have an opportunity to walk. Sidewalks are expensive to maintain and I believe they aren’t in harmony with the natural beauty of our area. Folks, get out there and walk. It does a body good.”
RED PHONE
Good for you, caller, and many of us should listen to your advice. Walking is not only enjoyable, but the simple act of moving your body down the street, or trail if you prefer, releases endorphines and actually makes you feel better. Walking is an activity that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Add to this the low-impact cardio exercise your body receives and the zero emissions of exhaust into the atmosphere, it can be a winning combination for physical fitness and well-being. We’re glad to hear the Morgan Hill City Council is considering the adoption of a trail system that will travel throughout the city. Those walking trails will encourage many to exercise.
Wanted: Hot T-Shirts
“Where can one pick up any more shirts or sweaters that were being sold by CalFire?”
RED PHONE
Well, caller, CalFire wasn’t selling T-shirts. That was the enterprising work of a private entrepreneur who was hawking Lick Fire shirts out in front of the Christmas Hill Park fire camp, and like the fire, his day has come and gone.”
U-Turn Revisited
The Red Phone is following up on a caller’s concern about drivers making dangerous U-turns on E. Dunne Avenue at Bayo Claros.
The Red Phone contacted Mori Struve, deputy director for Morgan hill’s public works and operations department. Struve sent out a crew to assess the intersection last week. They found that installing a no u-turn sign at that intersection was a good idea. The sign should be installed by the end of next week.
