Morgan Hill – Two 17-year-old boys were arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly raping a teenage girl Saturday night.

Details of the incident were not available at presstime Monday, but Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing said drugs were found in one of the boy’s rooms during a search.

Morgan Hill police are also stepping up DUI enforcement, as statistics show the three-day Labor Day weekend can potentially be one of the deadliest due to increased traffic and alcohol consumption. As a part of the Avoid the 13 campaign, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, the department aims to deep drunk drivers off the streets through intensified enforcement, including a designated DUI officer.

As a result, DUI arrests were up during the holiday weekend. Traffic Officer Steve Pennington made four arrests for driving under the influence on Saturday night. During one of those arrests, Swing said, Pennington discovered the driver also was in possession of narcotics.

After two days of the four day Avoid the 13 campaign, in Santa Clara County, officers have made 71 arrests for driving under the influence, which is close to the four-day total for Memorial Day weekend, which was 74. There were three alcohol-related crashes in the county after the first two days, but no fatalities.
