TAC’s World of Port Wine a Tasty Success

Morgan Hill area teachers will have their needed classroom supplies again this year thanks in part to some fancy eating and drinking. Supporters of the Teachers’ Aid Coalition gathered at Clos La Chance Winery the evening of Aug. 29 for an evening dedicated to the enjoyment of port wines.

To start, fine wines made from surrounding hillside vineyards were paired with gourmet cheeses and cured meats. That was followed by a retreat to the tasting room to compare the barrel-drawn port from Clos La Chance, several deliciously matured ports from Guglielmo Winery and an impressive cherry port from Pedrizzetti Winery.

Tasters were abuzz after trying fruits presented by Andy’s Orchard, especially the August Flame Peaches and Golden Nectar Plums. Then came the more substantial fare provided by Le Bistro Restaurateur, Lucia Nevejans. Her festive Mediterranean menu included Spanish chicken with seasoned pine nuts, meatballs glazed with a tangy barbecue sauce and pasta in creamy pesto sauce with seasoned, spiced nuts.

94.5 KBAY midday personality Jona Denz-Hamilton was on hand to help transition the crowd from tasting room to lecture hall where she introduced food expert Dorothy McNett, who’s also a former middle school teacher.

Event sponsors and members of the Teachers’ Aid Coalition are looking forward to the next fundraiser whose topic will be King Cab.

Items are still needed for TAC’s Oct. 11 classroom supply giveaway at the Morgan Hill Unified School District warehouse. Donations from the public and businesses can be made at the offices of Dr. Jon Hatakeyama, 370 W. Dunne Ave., Ste. 3 during regular business hours. The TAC classroom giveaway happens thanks to civic-minded wineries, supportive event sponsors and those who believe in public education.
