With freshman Jenna Robertson pitching and Holly Turay catching, the Acorns beat Santa Clara 4-3, Mountain View 8-7 and Piedmont Hills 6-1, extending their win streak to nine.
Leading Live Oak (13-2) offensively were Kelly McDonald and Sarah Locarnini. McDonald had three home runs and a triple among her six hits in the tournament, along with excelling defensively at third base. Locarnini went 4 for 4 in the first game and had seven hits and one walk overall, as well as four stolen bases.
Brittney Ondich and Taylor Sutton gad four hits each. Sutton also had three RBIs and four stolen bases.
Robertson kept the Acorns in each game with clutch pitching, and outfielders Sabrina LaCorte, Dahajaira Lopez, Robin Nelson and Brooke Willis all chipped in defensively.
The Acorns ran their league record to 6-0. coming from behind with three seventh-inning runs to edge Pioneer 6-5 Thursday. Each team had eight hits and two errors in the game.
Nelson started the decisive seventh with a double. Locarnini reached on an error. Sutton’s base hit drove in Nelson. McDonald’s single scored Locarnini. After Ondich was intentionally walked, Willis singled to score Sutton with the winning run.
Pioneer (5-8 overall, 1-4 BVAL) scored runs in the first and third inning for a 2-0 lead. Robertson relieved Tricia Goularte in the fourth inning.
Live Oak took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Robertson walked and moved to second on Turay’s sacrifice bunt. Locarnini’s single drove in Robertson. Sutton’s single scored Locarnini. McDonald reached on an error as Sutton scored.
The Mustangs scored three runs on four hits in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead and set the stage for the Acorns’ seventh-inning rally.
Live Oak resumes BVAL action at 3:30pm April 17 when it hosts Mt. Pleasant.
Willow Glen 13, Sobrato 5
Morgan Hill – After a fast start to its Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division season, Sobrato has dropped four straight.
The latest was a 13-5 defeat Thursday at the hands of previously BVAL winless Willow Glen. The Rams (4-6 overall, 1-4 league) had been outscored 48-2 in their first four BVAL contests.
For the Bulldogs, who opened league play 2-0, they have dropped four straight and are now 5-7 overall, 2-4 in BVAL.
