The Acorns (14-2) scored in the third when Robin Nelson was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Holly Turay’s bunt and scored on Sarah Locarnini’s base hit.
The Spartans tied the game in the sixth but Jenna Robertson pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to escape further damage.
Locarnini had three of Live Oak’s seven hits, and Willis had two.
The Acorns were to play in the tournament semifinals Saturday against Lynbrook, but rain delayed the game and both coaches agreed to not play.
That turned the semifinal game between San Benito and Evergreen Valley into the title game and the Haybalers prevailed 9-3 to claim their second straight Mission City Invitational crown.
It was the beginning of a tough stretch of games for the Acorns, who have won 10 straight. Live Oak returns to Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division action at 3:30pm today when it hosts Mt. Pleasant. The Acorns are at Leigh on Thursday.
Prep Baseball
Los Gatos – Los Gatos’ home field has been a house of horrors for visitors.
Live Oak found that out Thursday when the Wildcats handed the Acorns their worst defeat of the season, 10-0, in a non-league game.
Kyle Blair pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Paul Politi had a monster game at the plate with four hits, including a double and triple, and five RBIs for Los Gatos (13-6). The Wildcats are 10-0 at home.
Matthew Cummins, Eddie Gomez and Cameron Willis had the hits for Live Oak (12-5).
The Acorns return to Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division play at 3:30pm today when they are at Piedmont Hills.
