San Jose – The Live Oak baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision Thursday to host Santa Teresa to fall into a three-way tie for first place in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division.
The Acorns (10-4 overall, 7-3 BVAL) are knotted up with Santa Teresa and Leigh.
The Saints got three hits and a walk in the second inning off Live Oak starting pitcher Tim O’Rourke to score twice to take the initial lead.
But the Acorns came back in the third inning to tie the score.
With one out, Cameron Willis and Eddie Gomez both walked and Matthew Cummins singled to center field to score Willis. Tony Austin later delivered a two-out RBI single to right field to score Gomez with the tying run.
That proved to be the end of the highlights for Live Oak, as two Saints’ relievers shut down the Acorns the rest of the way.
Santa Teresa regained the lead with a run in the third and stretched it with four in the fourth.
WIllis and Alika Bantilan both had two hits apiece for Live Oak and Bantilan pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth.
The Acorns are back in action when they host Leland at 3:30pm today. They travel to face Leland at 3:30pm Thursday.
