San Jose – Leland’s girls remained unbeaten and its boys won their first meet Wednesday in a Blossom Valley Athletic League meet against Live Oak.
The Chargers’ girls won 83-57, and the boys won 67-60.
Live Oak’s girls (3-2) had several strong efforts, getting double wins from Courtney Robinson and Pauline Olsen.
Robinson was first in the 100 in 13.19, and first in the 200 in 27.45. Olsen won the 400 in 62.69 and the pole vault at 6-0, and was second in the 800.
Other girls with solid efforts included Denae Chappelle, first in the shot put at 26-6 1/2, and second in the discus at 77-5; Katie Armstrong, second in the 100 hurdles and second in the high jump; Erika Rodriguez, second in the 200 and third in 100; Olivia Duran, second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200; and Katie Mallette, second in the pole vault.
Juillard Robinson led the boys, finishing first in the 100 in 11.65, first in the 200 in 23.58, second in the high jump in 5-4, and running a leg on the winning 4×100 relay team that finished in 46.86.
Josh Levy won the 800 in a personal record 2:12, won the 3,200 in 11:00, was second in the 1,600 in a personal best 4:50, and ran a leg on the second-place 4 x 400 relay team.
Also, Joey Rodriguez won 400 in 56.51; Matt Acosta won the discus with a toss of 109-1 and was second in the shot put at 36-4; Nic Muhn won the 300 hurdles in 44.88; and Mark Cedeno was second in 200, second in the long jump and second in triple jump.
“The girls were going against a powerhouse, and I was pleased how they competed,” Live Oak coach Dean Raymond said. There were a number of PRs on the girls side.
“I was disappointed with the outcome of the boys. There were a number of what ifs from hurdles to relays to the jumps.”
Acorns Roll To Fourth Straight hockey Win
San Jose – The Live Oak roller hockey team made it four straight wins last Friday when it beat Del Mar 9-6.
Paul Anderson, Michael Widergren, Kyle Rosenzweig and Daniel Daly all made key contributions to the victory. Goaltender Ryan Listol was solid in the net.
Scoring for Live Oak were Conner Williamson, Kyle Dutra and Brian Costello each with three goals. Scott Alexander and Christian Simonsen each had an assist. Costello added three assists.Â
The Acorns finished off the regular season in a third-place tie with Leland and Leigh.
Live Oak begins the playoffs at 6pm today against Leland. If the Acorns win, they will play again at 8:30pm.Â
They hope to earn a spot in the championship game at 8:15pm Saturday. Undefeated Santa Teresa and second-place Lincoln figure to be the favorites.
sobrato golfers fall
to piedmont hills
Milpitas – Sobrato hosted Piedmont Hills at Spring Valley on the Gold Course Monday and lost 210-228.
Piedmont’s Jody Ho was the medalist with a 38. Sobrato’s top golfers were Garry Leung with a 39, Brandon Roth shot a 44, Michael Moran and Ricky Hemon both had a 47. Ron Gifford had a 51.
“It was good for us because they are A-Division team and we are a C-Division team,” said Sobrato coach Norm Brown.
