It was a productive weekend for the Sobrato baseball team.

First, the Bulldogs followed up a win earlier in the week against Mt. Pleasant by beating the Cardinals 8-6 Friday in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division game. On Saturday, Sobrato (6-5 overall, 5-5 BVAL) stretched its win streak to three with a 6-5 win over North Salinas.

The Bulldogs relinquished a 5-0 lead when Mt. Pleasant collected six sixth-inning runs. But Sobrato collected itself with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Winning pitcher Tim Buich had a big day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead a 13-hit attack. Tom Buich Ryan Evanger and Billy Hill each had two hits as well. Rauley Cambra and Hill scored two runs apiece.

Billy Birrell pitched five scoreless innings before being roughed up in the sixth. Daniel Serrano and Anthony Torres knocked in two runs apiece for the Cardinals in the sixth. Birrell and Buich combined to allow nine hits and struck out four.

Sobrato 6, North Salinas 5

Birrell, Evanger and Kevin Sullivan combined to go 9 for 11 and the Bulldogs collected 16 hits. Evanger also picked up the win, pitching five innings and allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out seven.

Tom Buich had two hits and knocked in two runs. Antonio Davis and Hill had two hits each.

Sobrato scored three runs in the third inning, and scored one run in each of the next three innings. But the Bulldogs had to hold off a Viking comeback.

Sobrato hosts Del Mar at 3:30pm today.

San Jose – Sobrato spotted Del Mar a 3-0 lead, scored four runs in the top of the sixth and then watched as the Dons came back with six in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 9-5 win..

Del Mar outhit the Bulldogs 11-9. Sobrato was hurt by four errors as it dropped its second straight Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division contest after starting the league 2-0.

The Bulldogs are 5-5 overall. They are at Santa Teresa for a 3:30pm game today.
