The Angels scored two runs in the top of the first on a double by Tommy Naranjo and a sacrifice by Andrew Perez. The Athletics drew even in the bottom of the inning, and went ahead in the second on doubles by Lorenzo Aguayo and Matt Cummings.
Casey Dawes drove in three runs to lead the Athletics. Andrew Bueno, Aguayo and Pyle each had two hits. Naranjo was perfect for the Angels, going 4 for 4 with two doubles.
Dawes, Aguayo and Bueno combined on a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Marlins 4, Dodgers 1
Nick Swanson and Jim Hagan combined for a two-hitter and were backed by solid defensive play in the outfield.
The Marlins scored in the first as Swanson tripled and scored on a passed ball. They scored again in the fourth as Ryan Corvese doubled and Brenden Stocksick drove him in with an RBI single. The Marlins finished their scoring in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Conor Havstad and Swanson scored on wild pitches.
In addition to stellar defense, Swanson and Hagan picked runners off, and Hagan as a catcher threw out a would-be base stealer.
Yankees 9, Tigers 5
Jason Struzik went 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Yankees.
The Tigers scored three in the first inning as Ty Gardner, Wes Guild and Jackson Gion all walked and scored. Mitch Crowley’s run-scoring single was the only hit in the inning.
The Yankees bounced back in the bottom of the inning. Nathaniel Batad opened with a single and scored on Struzik’s triple. Auston Rutledge also had a run-scoring hit in the inning.
Taylor Pullen’s double was the big hit in a three-run sixth for the Yankees. Batad pitched four innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits and striking out five.
Giants 10, Marlins 4
Mike Lemmon pitched four innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and striking out nine, and the Giants won it with a six-run fourth inning.
Noah Cook singled and came around to score for the Giants in the first. Jonathan Cervantes’ inside-the-park second-inning homer gave the Giants a 2-0 lead.
The Marlins tied it in the bottom of the second on Trenton Cisewski’s sacrifice fly and Alex Schnorr’s RBI single.
Jordan Santiago’s two-run double put the Giants ahead in the third before the Marlins tied it on Jim Hagan’s run-scoring double and Isaac Allen’s RBI single.
The Giants broke it open in the fourth as Cleve Gurney, Lucas Cook and Michael Dukes all had RBIs.
Tigers 4, Dodgers 3
The Tigers squeezed across two runs in the sixth and rode the relief pitching of Ritchie Martinez to the win.
The Dodgers came out strong with a single from Brent Newton, RBI double from Max Crowley and RBI single from Billy Barry to score two first-inning runs. Kolby Rousseu doubled and scored for the Tigers in the first. The Dodgers made it 3-1 in the third when Crowley tripled and Brett Newton sacrificed. Derek Deisenroth singled for the Tigers and scored in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth, the Tigers got the tying and winning runs. With runners on second and third, Jacob Brendle put down a squeeze bunt scoring the runner from third base. The runner on second also scored on an error.
Martinez pitched shutout ball in the last four innings for the win.
