San Jose – The hits just kept on coming Tuesday. And they weren’t just base hits.

On a windswept day in which the teams combined for 35 hits, 13 for extra bases, Live Oak built a big lead and went on to defeat host Piedmont Hills 22-11 in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division contest.

Sophomore Alika Bantilan had a huge game for the Acorns (13-5 overall, 10-3 BVAL), pitching four strong innings to gain the win and going 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.

“Alika pitched well under difficult conditions,” LO coach Mark Cummins said.

There were plenty of offensive stars for Live Oak, which collected 22 hits and built a 14-0 lead by the third inning and extended it to 20-3 in the fifth. It was the Acorns’ biggest offensive outburst of the season as they remained tied for the division lead through Tuesday’s games.

“It was great to see our bats stay alive for the entire game,” Live Oak coach Mark Cummins said. “With the windy conditions, anything can happen so it was important to continue to have quality at-bats even with a big lead.”

Matthew Cummins went 4 for 6 with three doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored. Tim O’Rourke was 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Eddie Gomez was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three runs. Adam Perez was on base four times with two hits and two walks, and he scored three times. Stephen Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Cameron Willis and Joe Forestieri had two hits apiece. Anthony Austin scored four times.

Brett Itatani led Piedmont Hills’ 13-hit attack, going 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Other Pirates (3-13, 3-10) getting in on the offensive pyrotechnics were Jordan Allen and Edward Rivero, who each homered; Joel Gaspar, who went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Kyle Utsorogi, who went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Live Oak travels to Campbell for a 3:30pm BVAL game Tuesday against Westmont.
