San Jose – Sobrato clinched an above-.500 record Friday with a 6-2 win over host Mt. Pleasant.

At 14-10 overall and 11-8 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division and with two games remaining, the Bulldogs are assured of a winning record and of finishing the season eligible to apply for an at-large berth to the Central Coast Section playoffs.

They have a chance to strengthen their resume when they host Del Mar at 3:30pm Wednesday and Independence at 3:30pm Friday.

Ryan Evanger was pivotal in helping Sobrato earn the win over Mt. Pleasant, which entered the game tied for third in the division with the Bulldogs. The lanky senior right-hander went the distance, allowing one earned run while scattering nine hits. He struck out four and allowed one walk.

The Cardinals got on the board first when they scored in the top of the first inning.

But Sobrato quickly struck back, scoring five in the top of the second to give Evanger more than enough run support.

Mt. Pleasant closed the gap with a run in the fifth, but the Bulldogs added an insurance run in the seventh and Evanger wrapped up his fourth win of the season.

Evanger also joined the offensive attack with a double and a run scored. Antonino Davi doubled for one of his two hits and he scored a run. Ryan Melicker had a double, an RBI and a run scored and Danny Nelson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Bryan Yates added a hit and a RBI, and Billy Birrell had a productive day, walking twice, delivering a sacrifice and scoring a run.

Daniel Serrano led Mt. Pleasant’s attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Aaron Torres also had a hit and an RBI.
