Three former Live Oak football players will be among the participants at the 32nd annual Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game on July 19 at 7:30pm at San Jose City College.

Dustin Muhn, Nathan Goldie and Jason Romero will all join the South team as it looks to improve on a 17-12 record against the North squad in the annual game pitting the top graduating high school football players in the Silicon Valley.

Muhn, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound running back ran for 1,477 yards and 15 touchdowns and was a first-team All-Tri-County Athletic League selection and was voted the league’s most valuable utility player. Muhn, who was an honor roll student and will attend UC Berkeley in the fall, was also named Live Oak’s most valuable player.

“Dustin is a smooth running back. Once he gets the ball he is capable of turning the corner on any defense,” said Jason Tenner, Leland High coach and the coach for the South team. “He’s quick and blows right through the holes. He isn’t afraid to take the ball and run with it.”

Goldie, a 6-0, 210-pound linebacker, was a first-team All-TCAL selection for the second straight season. He was the Acorns team captain the past two years and was voted by his team as the most valuable defensive player for the second straight year.

Goldie, who received the Certificate for Academic Excellence twice and the Scholar Athlete Award, is undecided on his plans for the fall.

“Nathan has the mentality of a linebacker once he puts his game face on,” Tenner said. “He’s a physical, hard-hitting inside linebacker who makes a living out of punishing ball carriers.”

Romero, a 6-3, 240-pound offensive and defensive lineman, was a first-team pick in the TCAL as an offensive lineman.

He was a team captain for the Acorns and was the recipient of the team’s most valuable lineman award. He will attend West Valley College in the fall.

“Jason is a big and athletic offensive lineman who provides big holes for running backs to run through,” Tenner said. “He knows how to hold the line and protect his quarterback.”

The game is played in honor of Charlie Wedemeyer, a former college football player and the 1960’s prep player of the decade in Hawaii.

He was diagnosed with ALS in 1977 and was given three years to live, yet is still alive today and is the founder of the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach, whose mission is to fight ALS. He will attend the game to encourage players and show his support for the tradition.

Past stars include former Live Oak star and current San Francisco 49er Jeff Ulbrich, the late Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman, former 49ers Jeff Garcia, Brett Jones and Carl Monroe and former Dallas Cowboy Doug Cosbie.

Tickets for the game are $15 and can be purchased at the San Jose Box Office. All proceeds from the game will benefit the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach and other local charities.
