Morgan Hill – Detectives investigating the apparent murder of a San Jose man are looking to the public for help, hoping someone that Felipe Hernandez-Sigueroa worked for the day of his death may have information that will assist them in the investigation.
The man’s death is still officially considered “suspicious.”
Hernandez-Sigueroa, 61, was a Mexican national who worked as a daylaborer, often working with landscapers and contractors in the East San Jose area, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dave Lera said.
Evidence was found at the location where Hernandez-Sigueroa’s body was apparently dumped that indicates he may have been working as a landscaper or contractor on the day he died, Aug. 6.
Lera said he and other homicide investigators would like to talk to anyone in Morgan Hill or the South County area who had contracted for landscaping services involving flagstone tiles on Aug. 6. Residents in the area who had landscapers on the property that day are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 808-4500.
“There was a lot of evidence at the scene, including the flagstone,” Lera said. “We were even able to get the color, so we’re hoping someone in that area who was having flagstone like that put in will come forward.”
Hernandez-Sigueroa’s body was found at approximately 9pm that day, sprawled half in and half out of the road near the intersection of Cochrane Road and Half Road in unincorporated Morgan Hill. According to a source who saw the body, Hernandez-Sigueroa’s face had been battered, and his pants had been pulled down around his ankles.
An autopsy has been completed, but detectives are not releasing the cause of his death because they believe that to do so at this time would compromise the investigation.
“We have several leads we’re following at this point,” Lera said, “but there’s nothing more we can release to the public at this time.”
Most of Hernandez-Sigueroa’s family is believed to be in Mexico, Lera said, but the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office was able to locate one relative. He did not know how the person was related to the dead man, and the Coroner’s Office would not release that information.
