Live Oak needs wins to stay in hunt for CCS; Sobrato, eliminated
from playoffs last week
Morgan Hill – This time, the Live Oak Acorns boys basketball team host the Sobrato Bulldogs in a rematch that could have playoff implications for the Acorns.

Live Oak (13-12, 6-4 TCAL) finds themselves in fourth place in the Tri-County Athletic League, following its loss to San Benito a week and half ago. The Acorns’ record won’t dip below .500, as they only have two games remaining, but the loss to the Haybalers puts them in a tighter position.

The Bulldogs (7-15, 3-7 TCAL) have been mathematically eliminated from the CCS playoffs, but will have pride riding on the line as they face the Acorns and the Gilroy Mustangs in their final two TCAL games.

“I think we’ll be a little looser because we have nothing to lose,” said Sobrato coach Lawrence Crawford. “I don’t think as coaches we’ll have to do much to motivate the team against Live Oak and Gilroy. The guys feel they can beat these teams and now thy have nothing to lose. Motivation for Live Oak is automatic, anyway. I know there are people who don’t want to call it a rivalry, but the kids believe it is a rivalry and that’s what matters.”

Motivation won’t be a problem for the Acorns either who would like to head into the CCS playoffs with some momentum. Live Oak defeated North Salinas last Wednesday to end a two-game losing streak.
