POST OFFICE FLAG
In the Jan. 19 Red Phone column, a caller asked why the American flag was not being flown at the Morgan Hill post office. It has come to the attention of Karen Bamberg, supervisor of the post office, that the brass clips that fasten the flag to the halyard are broken beyond repair and are on order for replacement. The flag will be up and flying soon. The Red Phone thanks Bamberg for the update.
EAST CENTRAL AVENUE
In the Jan. 19 issue of the Morgan Hill Times, a caller asked when E. Central Avenue will join Butterfield Boulevard with Calle Mazatan. Morgan Hill planner Jim Rowe sent the Red Phone an e-mail informing us that while Mori Struve, deputy director of Morgan Hill Public Works and Operations was correct in saying that the city has no plans for that road, the extension will be completed next year as part of a residential development by Delco Builders, who will be constructing a 39 lot single family home development on the north side of E. Central Avenue. The city will also be installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Butterfield Boulevard and East Central Avenue when the road is completed. The contact name on this project is Don Lapidus of Don Lapidus and Associates. He can be reached at (650) 949-1529.
COPS SHOULD BE HIDING
“I live near Diana Park on Diana Avenue and I wanted to let it be known that the neighborhood and park visitors are thrilled that the police officer is finally keeping an eye on that stop sign! The homeowners have been screaming for help for years, because drivers only stop when an officer is present! I am curious as to why the police officer doesn’t ‘hide’ when waiting for an illegal stop to occur? We see the same cars everyday running through it and if he was parked on St. Joseph Drive, he’d catch almost every one! Thank you Morgan Hill Police for your help.”
RED PHONE
It is curious that the Red Phone has received calls from irate residents complaining that the police are hiding to issue citations and our caller is suggesting that hiding is perfectly okay. Of course, our caller is not the driver in this case. She appreciates the effort put forth by Morgan Hill’s finest.
Let’s keep in mind that the police traffic section’s main function and ultimate goal is to keep the streets safe for us. If that involves handing out more citations, then so be it. If the same results can be produced by a more visible police force and a few less tickets, that works for us, too.
Let the police decide how best to enforce the traffic codes and while they’re busy doing that, why don’t we continue to strive to be the safest drivers we can be. Keep in mind that you are not invisible out there … people notice the responsible as well as the foolish things we do in our little mobile metal units.
WHAT’S THE WORD ON THE STREET?
“When will Butterfield Boulevard be extended to Madrone Parkway? Thanks.”
RED PHONE
The Red Phone visited the Morgan Hill Planning Office where we were informed that no private developers have plans on connecting Butterfield Boulevard and Madrone Parkway. To make sure we had a complete answer to your question, we called Scott Creer, senior civil engineer with the Morgan Hill Public Works Department. Creer said the city has no plans for construction of that piece of road either.
So it looks like it may be a while before we see any work being done at that particular area in the northern part of Morgan Hill.
