Stalker still at large
Gilroy
Police are still tracking down leads while residents remain vigilant despite two weeks without a new incident in the string of stalking reports and possible attempted sexual assaults this fall.
Gilroy was beset by six suspicious incidents involving men in white vehicles from early August through mid-October. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the incidents, the last of which occurred Oct. 17. However, police hope they will find vehicles that match witness descriptions and expect to release suspect sketches soon.
“We take these (incidents) very seriously and we’re working on them daily,” Sgt. Jim Gillio said.
Witnesses said an October stalker who watched or approached the same 10-year-old girl three separate times outside her house on Alder Street in southwest Gilroy drove a white two-door sedan with a dent on the driver’s-side door.
Love triangle prompts fight
Gilroy
A young woman pulled out a large blade during a fight over a man and cut another young woman in Las Animas Veterans Park Thursday afternoon, witnesses said.
Just after 2 p.m., three young women who appeared to know each other gathered under trees near the flagpole at the northwest corner of the park and began exchanging profanity-laden accusations, witnesses said.
Accompanied by a friend, one woman – who police identified as a 21-year-old from Salinas – attacked the third girl – who police identified as a 19-year-old female – hitting and punching her, witnesses said. The 19-year-old pulled out a blade at least six inches long and sliced the 21-year-old’s right forearm, witnesses said. The fight originated because two of the women wanted the same guy, police said.
The 21-year-old and acquaintance fled in a grey, four-door sedan westbound on Mantelli Drive, witnesses said. The 19-year-old tucked the knife into small black handbag and took off south across the park.
At least three police cars surrounded the park, but police were unable to spot the suspect.
The park was filled with the usual afternoon denizen – two skateboarders riding the half-pipe, a few children scrambling through the jumgle gym and adults sitting in parked cars feasting on In-N-Out burgers.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had a known suspect and were tracking her down, Gilroy police Sgt. Jim Gillio said.
