Morgan Hill – Police are still searching for a Hispanic man in his late 30s or early 40s who robbed the main branch of the Wells Fargo Bank in downtown Morgan Hill and made off with $420 in cash Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the suspect entered the bank sometime between 2 and 3pm and handed the teller a note informing her it was a robbery and requesting money. The teller did not remember what the note specifically said, but told police she remembered seeing the word shoot.
After the teller handed the suspect $420 in cash, he took the note and fled the bank without incident. No weapon was actually seen, but police say the suspect was holding his hand under his shirt to suggest he was armed.
“What we do know is that the man apparently simulated a weapon, no actual weapon was seen, and that he fled after he was given $400,” Sampson said.
The man was described as wearing a black Raiders’ baseball cap and officers are studying surveillance tapes. Police say they are unsure if the suspect is a local resident.
No one was injured in the robbery, Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson said.
Wells Fargo has offered a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
“Often time a reward along with a description will help bring in some leads for officers to folo,” MHPD Officer Kevin Bielman said.
