In a high-scoring game, the Tigers picked up their first win. Starting pitcher Sam Raney stopped an early Indian threat with the bases loaded and none out. Raney struck out two and a pop fly to shortstop Hunter Kirk ended the inning.
The Tigers took control early with Hunter Kirk delivering a two-out RBI single as part of a rally to take a 5-0 lead in the first. They struck again in the bottom of the second, scoring four times to make it 9-1.
The Indians battled back in the top of the third started. Patrick Kelly highlighted the rally with a two-run triple and they scored four times. They added five runs in the top of the fourth, but the Tigers picked up four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. Tiger reliever Kassey Cornelius struck out five in two innings.
Bronco Division
Angels 13, Indians 12
The Angels needed a seventh-inning rally to pull out the win in a back and forth game.
After scoring five runs in the fourth, the Angels watched the Indians chip away and eventually take an 8-6 lead in the fourth.
But the Angels responded with five runs to regain the lead at 11-8. That didn’t last long however as the Indians scored four in the fifth to make it 12-11.
But in the seventh, the Angels got the final tallies and Bryan Freitas delivered the big hit when he line a ball to left-center to score Tommy Naranjo with the winning run.
Athletics 20, Marlins 1
The Athletics started quick with six runs in the first and scored in every inning of the win.
A’s pitcher Westyn Herscovitch kept the Marlins offense in check the first two innings, allowing three base runners.
Nelson Pyle kicked off the early rally when he led the game off with a triple. Andrew Bueno, Herscovitch, Casey Dawes, Matt Cummings and Miguel Gonzalez all singled to help produce the runs.
Dylan Kral provided the big hit in that inning with a two-run double.
The A’s scored five more runs in the second and four in the third before being limited to one run in the fourth. They added two runs in the fifth and sixth to complete the lopsided victory.
The Marlins lone run came when Alex Schnorr doubled and Conor Havstad also double to plate him.
