After two winless seasons, the Sobrato softball team hopes to make the third time the charm with newly appointed coach Rob Piper at the helm.

While Sobrato’s previous records might not display the progress that has been made, Piper says the Bulldogs will look to improve game by game and let the win column take care of itself.

“We are going to do the best we can,” Piper said. “We are going to base our success on performance and execution and from there the wins will come.”

With only five returning players on a young team in the process of moving girls from different districts, this year’s team will have a new identity and will focus on the simple aspects of the game. The Bulldogs will look to play fundamentally sound ball but they will also look to put pressure on their opponents as well, installing a new style that will include solid defense and aggressive base running.

Sobrato will rely on the power and consistency of pitchers Danielle Calpitt and Samantha Sanchez with the steady play of catcher Casey Post. While these three will look to lead the Bulldogs on the mound and behind the plate, they will also create opportunities for the Bulldogs with their bats as Souza, Calpitt, and Post will being batting in the heart of the lineup at the third, fourth and fifth spots.

Although Sobrato might not have high expectations in terms of wins and losses, Piper says that they will play the right way and in turn could wind up with more wins than anyone might expect.
