Morgan Hill – With a win over Piedmont Hills High School on Thursday, the Sobrato girls volleyball team advanced their record to 8-0 in the Santa Teresa division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
So far in the month of October the Bulldogs have defeated league opponents Andrew Hill, Silver Creek, Prospect and Piedmont Hills.
Thursday’s game was important for the Bulldogs as the Piedmont Hills Pirates came into the match-up with a 6-1 record, only a game behind Sobrato.
Senior captain Nicole Simoneau said Thursday’s win was huge for Sobrato.
“This was the biggest game so far because we felt like we had to beat them,” Simoneau said. “We were down in the fourth game, but Ms. Miller gave us a motivational speech and we were able to get it together.”
Sobrato won the first game 25-22 but lost the second 23-25.
Sobrato dropped the third game 21-25, but won the fourth game after a timeout and speech from Miller.
“We huddled up as a team and reminded each other how hard we worked during the summer,” Miller said.
The team uses last season’s West Valley division championship and their dedicated off-season training regiment as motivation to play hard.
“We work harder than any team in our league,” Simoneau said.
Sobrato hosts Santa Teresa tonight at 6pm.
