n U.S. Attorney General is Following Orders

Dear Editor,

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales does not deserve the vicious criticism that he has received. He has done exactly what President Bush asked him to do, convert the Justice Department into an attack force for the Republican party. Loyalty is number one, above ability and expertise in deciding who continues as a federal prosecutor. Bush supports Gonzales to continue doing his bidding and mold the Justice Department to be a loyal Republican group. Nineteen more months should allow Gonzales to make additional progress.

n Mosques Are Not Citizen-Friendly

Dear Editor,

I have read the pros and cons regarding construction of the Muslim Center in our area. Emotions are stirred in this area and rightfully so. Dina Campeau’s column writing of Muslims as “only by their love and devotion to God,” and “they are devout Muslims” is double talk.

One only has to examine news reports of problems and chaos in mosques throughout the country, namely Lodi, Fremont and most recently a mosque in New York City to realize that these are not businesses or citizen-friendly organizations!

n True Believers of Islam Shun Violence

Dear Editor,

This is in response to recent letters regarding Islam. Islam is a religion which sprang from Christianity in approximately 600 A.D. Followers of Islam believe in one God (Allah) and that Mohammed is his prophet. Many of the beliefs are very similar to Christianity and Judaism and include charity, prayer, fasting and a pilgrimage to Mecca. Islam closely follows the doctrines of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 6, 7) and abhors violence. Unfortunately, some followers of Islam, along with some followers of Christianity and other religions, have formed sects with extremist, cruel, violent teachings. True believers of Islam did not blow up the Twin Towers, nor are they the terrorists in our society.

For those of us who are Christians, we must remember that God loves all of us, no matter who we are and where we live and worship. It is important that we strive for world peace and to do so we need to understand each other.  Please do not confuse a few extremists with Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism or other great religions.

Whether or not a mosque is appropriate to San Martin should be a decision based upon zoning, architecture, and appropriate land use, but not based upon heresy.

Festival’s Prize Booth is Telemarketing Headache

Dear Editor,

The Mushroom Mardi Gras prize booth turned out to be a major pain with marketing calls and e-mails. The booth looked as if it was being sponsored by one of Morgan Hill’s service organizations, asking us to enter to win the grand prize. Well it turned out to be a telemarketing blitz.

Last week I received a call that I had won a prize, but first I had to drive to San Mateo, listen to a time-share presentation, then maybe get a prize. The organizers need to really investigate the companies they bring to such event. Ask questions of the business, do they have opt out for e-mail and phone, do they check with the federal and state do-not-call registry. For know my phone rings off the hook and my in-box is packed with spam.

If the organizers want to raise money for charity why not have a silent auction with local merchants and businesses donating the prizes? What a better way to get people to know what is available in Morgan Hill.

n Prejudice Alive in Bucolic American Valley

Dear Editor,

Wow, I can’t believe the prejudice I’ve seen recently in our “lovely, bucolic American valley” as stated in Diane C. Dawson’s recent letter.

First I would like to say I grew up in a “lovely, bucolic American valley.” I lived in the same house for 18 years until I moved out on my own and my only changes in school was from elementary, junior high to high school. There where no Blacks, Asians, Middle Easterner or other “Undesirables.”

The city I grew up in is Saratoga. I’m sure there are some Muslims and others living there now and I don’t hear of killings of “non-believers.”

Let’s get real. Unless you know your family’s family was born here, you are an immigrant!

I ask the question, if an atheist organization planned the same building, would reaction be the same? I think so!

The bottom line is that we all have to get along!

I would like to suggest to Diane Dawson she visit our new Morgan Hill dog park. There she will see how big and little, light and dark and aggressive and possessive can all get along!

If citizens in America do not wake up and stop the radical changes of talking God out of our schools and laws and portray what American history has always stood for, we will lose some, if not all, our freedom.

It is sad to hear the word “diversity” so often and sad to have large groups coming to America and following Islam instead of God who created our world.
