San Jose – Three weeks ago, the Morgan Hill Mustang “A” team rolled though the Memorial Day all star tournament hosted by San Jose Pacific.

Morgan Hill outscored their opponents by a combined score of 55-5 over four games.

Meanwhile, the other South Bay power house in the Mustang Division, the “A” team from Blossom Valley, crushed it’s opponents in a similar Memorial Tournament hosted by Seaside.

Blossom Valley destroyed the competition by the combined score of 73-5.

In preparation for the the Mustang Sectional All Star Tournament scheduled for July 7-14 in Morgan Hill, the two power-house teams played a double header Saturday at Blossom Valley’s home field at Calero School in San Jose.

In the first game, Blossom Valley took advantage of several Morgan Hill fielding errors and five walks to score eight runs in the second inning.

Although Morgan Hill finally settled-down and allowed no runs over the last three innings, the early deficit was too much to over come and Blossom Valley took the game by a score of 10-2.

Ryan Quadros had two hits while Ethan Cox and Josh Alaniz pitched three shut-out innings to lead the way for Morgan Hill in game one.

Game two was quite a different story.

Alejandro Torres, Mark Quinby, and Ben Hughes each pitched two strong innings for Morgan Hill.

The trio only allowed two runs on one hit, while striking out a combined nine Blossom Valley hitters.

Torres and Hughes each had key RBI hits to lead a 12 hit Morgan Hill attack.

Domenic Zanotto had two timely singles and scored two runs while Mike Porras, Ian McGowen, and Josh Alaniz all had important hits for Morgan Hill.

The defensive play of the day was made by McGowen, who caught a fly-ball in right field then threw-out a runner attempting to score from third base.

Other defensive stand-outs for Morgan Hill included Cole Campi, Patrick Muller, Jack Affourtit, and Bradley Higgins.
