Morgan Hill – To coincide with our Best of Morgan Hill Readers’ Poll, the Times would like to acknowledge the best athletes of the 2006-07 school year.
In past years the Morgan Hill Times has chosen two athletes to showcase, but with so many outstanding candidates this year we decided to give a run down of the top-performers throughout the year.
Kevin Mom, Live Oak Golf. Mom fired a round of 74 in the Central Coast Section South Regionals.
Lance Wolfsmith and Alan Rios, Sobrato Track & Field. Wolfsmith’s time of 4:21.68 in the mile ranked him #5 in the state of California for all sophomores, and Rios’ time of 1:59.30 in the half mile ranked im #2 in the state of California for all freshmen this year.
Mike Duran, Sobrato Wrestling. Duran was the #1 seed going into the CCS championship, and the second Bulldog in two years to go to the state meet.
Mubarik Abdullahi, Sobrato Boys Basketball. Abdullahi was named MVP of the Bulldog Chase Tournament.
Jeff Mounteer, Live Oak Boys Basketball. Mounteer was one of the athletes of the year at Live Oak.
Marqus Crawford, Sobrato Boys Basketball. Crawford led the team in scoring.
Genaro Redmond, Sobrato Wrestling and Football. Redmond was named the male athlete of the year for his outstanding performances on the field and the mat.
Katie Alton, Sobrato Girls Soccer, Softball, Cross Country. Alton finished the regular soccer season second in scoring in the BVAL West Valley League with 23 goals.
Sheldon Steenhuis, Live Oak Boys Soccer. Steenhuis was a leader on and off the field as the veteran goalie.
Matthew Cummins, Live Oak Baseball. Cummins had an outstanding year as a junior.
Kelly McDonald, Live Oak Softball. McDonald was a three-year starter and is continuing her softball career at San Francisco State University.
