Several incidents that happened all in one evening last week kept police busy, as drugs and violence led to arrests.
Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said police arrested a 35-year-old Morgan Hill man on June 13 for spousal battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
The man was booked into Santa Clara County Jail after he allegedly tried to hit her while driving a van.
A witness to the incident called police to report a man was chasing a woman down the street near Carden Academy on Llagas Road. The witness told dispatchers the man was hitting her and yelling at her. A second witness told police the man was driving the van and accelerated towards the woman, who screamed. The man also allegedly grabbed the woman by the arm to try to get her back into the vehicle.
Neumayer said the man and his wife were originally in the van, arguing about their 15-year-old daughter, when they spotted their daughter walking down the road. The man allegedly brought the van to a stop behind their daughter, and the wife got out of the van and went in front of it, near her daughter. The husband started revving the engine of the van and inching forward, Neumayer said, so the wife started running. The man allegedly ran after her.
Police responded to calls from witnesses at approximately 9pm and arrested the husband without incident. Neumayer said the woman had no visible injuries and refused medical treatment. The teenager was not injured.
Later that night, police responded to a call about a possible robbery and assault. A Morgan Hill resident told police their son was assaulted by a group of people as he walked outside of Marie Callendars restaurant, and his cell phone was broken by the suspects. Neumayer said the suspects in the alleged assault have not been arrested.
Several hours later, in a different incident, he added, police arrested a Hollister woman and a Morgan Hill man on narcotics charges.
Officers responded at approximately 1am on June 14 to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the rear of an apartment parking lot on Barnell Avenue. The witness told police someone in the truck was seen holding a plastic baggie with a white substance inside.
Amber Olvera, 21, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for alleged possession of a controlled substance. Jose Montemayor, 27, was cited and released on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
