8, the rest of the Live Oak Roller Hockey team knew they had their
work cut out for them as they battled first place Del Mar in the
final game of the regular season.
Morgan Hill – With half of the team at graduation ceremonies on Friday, June 8, the rest of the Live Oak Roller Hockey team knew they had their work cut out for them as they battled first place Del Mar in the final game of the regular season. Determined to meet the challenge, Live Oak came together as a team and gave Del Mar a fierce game.
Junior Michael Widergren scored Live Oak’s only goal off an assist from junior Paul Anderson.
In the end the tired and under-manned team came up with a loss but were content with their level of play.
The previous Friday Live Oak played Leland in what would be the senior’s final game of the season.
Seniors Brian Costello scored five goals and had two assists, Kyle Dutra had three goals and four assists, and Conner Williamson scored one goal.
Junior Kyle Rosenzweig also scored one goal in Live Oak’s 10-7 victory over Leland.
Out of eight Division II teams Live Oak finished the season tied for third place behind Del Mar and Wilco earning them a playoff spot.
In game one of the playoffs on on Friday, June 15 Live Oak faced off against Lincoln and lost.
Being short on players, the Acorns once again played a tough, consistent game.
Junior Michael Widergren scored as did freshman Daniel Daly.
Senior Kyle Dutra had two goals and one assist, and senior Conner Williamson had one goal.
Assists came from freshman Christian Simonsen and Rosenzweig.
Junior goalie Ryan ListolIn was making critical saves in the net for Live Oak.
The team had a great year playing in a tough division, and the returning players are looking forward to the fall when they will once again head out to Rollin Ice to represent Live Oak on the hockey rink.
