Red Phone, my son started school at Sobrato Thursday and he’s
riding his bike. There used to be ‘no parking’ signs in the bike
lane on both sides, but apparently someone has taken down signs on
the south side and the they have not been replaced.

Red Phone: Dear Where’d They Go, Red Phone contacted Scott Creer, senior civil engineer, who said that Burnett Avenue has a striped bike lane on the north side of the road, but the south side of the road has a striped combination bike lane and parking lane across the Madrone Mobile Home Park development.
“For visibility reasons, parking is prohibited on either side of the two driveways serving the mobile home park,” Creer said. “Signage was initially placed to implement this restriction. However, to better define the no parking limits at these driveways the signage has been replaced with red curbing.”
Hope that answers your questions, good caller.
Council looks to close budget gap
“Dear Red Phone, your response (Aug. 23) about the Redevelopment Agency may have been correct, but the question may have contained some incorrect numbers. The caller said the city faces a $3 million deficit next year, but I believe that number has been reduced. Can you clarify?”
Red Phone: Dear Please Clarify, Red Phone contacted City Manager Ed Tewes, who said, you are correct, that number has been reduced. When the RDA was first threatened by the Governor late last year, city officials said losing the RDA could mean a $3 million hit to the city’s general fund, in the current year, if the council did nothing.
Of course, the council did something and now, according to the five-year projections (made in April 2011), the general fund operating deficit in fiscal year 2013 would be $251,000.
“Recently, in adopting the alternative voluntary redevelopment program, we identified the need to find an additional $200,000 to replace the RDA support for police officers in fiscal year 2013 and $350,000 in subsequent years,” Tewes said. “Arguably, the city is facing a $451,000 deficit next year, but we will be returning (Wednesday) with some suggestions for how to close the gap.”
Creeks are a mess, help clean them
“Red Phone, there sure is a lot of trash in our local creeks, specifically West Little Llagas Creek at Ciolino Avenue, where shopping carts can be seen floating amongst a lot of other debris. It sure looks trashy and sends a bad message. What can be done?”
Red Phone: Dear What Can be Done, Red Phone contacted Marty Grimes, Santa Clara Valley Water District spokesman, who said a crew was scheduled to remove the items.
In addition, that site is on the list for Coastal Cleanup Day from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 17. Anyone interested in volunteering to clean can visit http://cleanacreek40.eventbrite.com to register.
Hope that answers your question, good caller.
