– The Morgan Hill Police Department and the Community Law Enforcement Foundation invite the community to attend the Annual Public Safety Day & Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Morgan Hill police station, 16200 Vineyard Blvd. Get to know public safety representatives and see up close the tools they use to preserve, protect and defend the community. The event will also incorporate an eWaste fundraiser, so clean out those closets and bring unwanted electronics to help raise funds for the Morgan Hill Police Department. The event includes tours, SWAT trucks and other MHPD vehicles on display, a demonstration with K-9 with Pax and officer David Ray, a free child seat check, food, games and prizes.

Meet the author

– Come meet Luke Marusiak, author of “Marx & Ford,” a tale that follows the lives of twins John and Thomas Staid who are similar in every way, until they grow distant in their beliefs and the paths they take. This fiction will fill the readers’ minds with opposing ideas and intellectual debate as the twins each grapple with the consequences of their choices. Marusiak was raised in Pennsylvania, served in the U.S. Army, then moved to the Silicon Valley in the early 1990s. He will share his writing experiences and talk about his novel from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, at BookSmart, 80 E. Second St.

Learn about mountain lions

– Join volunteer Rick Hopkins in a presentation about the park’s famous predators, the mountain lion, at Henry Coe State Park. The presentation starts at 8 .m. Saturday, and all ages are welcome.

Catch a free outdoor movie

– The Morgan Hill Downtown Association is presenting its annual free Downtown Movie Night Sept. 17, at the Community & Cultural Center, with the showing of “Grease.” Come out and enjoy a free movie under the stars. Dress in your best ’50s attire. There will be free ice cream and pony rides.

South Valley democrats raise funds

– Don’t miss the South County Democratic Club Annual Fundraiser featuring keynote speaker Professor Terry Christensen, San Jose State University Political Science Department, from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the home of Ralph and Susan McKuhen, 3225 Dryden Ave., Gilroy. Invited officials include Congressman Jerry McNerney, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Assemblyman Luis Alejo and Assemblyman Bill Monning.

Free flu shots

– Flu shots are provide by Sister Rachela of Saint Louise Regional Hospital from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sept. 29. Please schedule an appointment at the Morgan Hill Senior Center in advance.
