The Bulldogs moved to 1-1 in the Santa Teresa Division.

The Sobrato girls (0-2) fell 27-29 to Overfelt despite a strong effort by Camila Rico, who covered the 2.74-mile course in 21:31, good for fifth.

GIRLS TENNIS

Emily Ankiel won a second-set tiebreaker Tuesday to help the Sobrato Bulldogs beat Independence 5-2 for their first victory in Mount Hamilton Division play.

It was also the first win for coach Ignacio Herrera.

Ankiel defeated Vicky Lam 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), as the Bulldogs took three of four in singles play. Amanda Alipaz and Mica Schenkelberg also won for SHS (1-2).

Sobrato’s doubles winners were Allison Bettencourt and Nemerta Cherra, and Theresa Ngo and Heather Sjostedt.

FIELD HOCKEY

Sobrato opened West Valley Division play Wednesday with a 6-0 loss at Westmont.
