MORGAN HILL
With the way they have come on strong in the past two weeks, the Live Oak Acorns might not want a spring break.
They continued to climb in the Mount Hamilton Division with a 9-3 win at Branham on Tuesday and a 7-3 victory over Pioneer on Wednesday, riding strong pitching by Katie Obbema and 12 hits in both games.
To make sectionals, Live Oak (12-10, 5-4) has to win two of its final five games, which include home tilts against second place Leigh on May 4 and first place Westmont on May 10.
Tuesday the Acorns rallied past the Bruins (5-13, 0-10) by scoring seven runs in the final inning. Obbema struck out eight and received help from Kayla Cisneroz and Rachel Ditta, who doubled twice, and freshman Grace Hargadon, who had a two-run homer. Priscilla Orona laid down a successful squeeze bunt, and Obbema collected two singles.
Live Oak played error-free Wednesday to hold off the Mustangs.
Jenny Obbema led the Acorns’ offense with a single, a triple and three RBIs. Ditta and Hargadon had run-scoring singles; Pati Monterrey provided three important sacrifice bunts, and Diana Lopez singled twice for Live Oak.
