A man who police said appeared to be under the influence of
alcohol or drugs was taken away in an ambulance Friday in an alley
west of Monterey Road in Downtown Gilroy.
A man who police said appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and jumped off a building Friday in an alley west of Monterey Road in Downtown Gilroy has died according to the Gilroy Police Department.
The man died at local trauma hospital shortly after he was taken into custody, according to the GPD.
According to Adam Sanchez, owner of the not-yet-opened Milias Restaurant at Sixth Street and Monterey Road, police told him the man jumped from the roof of the Milias Apartments and onto the roof an adjacent building.
Police said the man’s name was not immediately known.
Officers responded to a report of the man acting suspiciously about 3 p.m. near the corner of Monterey Road and Eighth Street downtown, Castaneda said.
When police confronted him, he ran and entered a building at the corner of Sixth Street and Monterey Road, Castaneda said.
Sanchez said the man fled into the Milias Apartments and officers chased after him.
Police took the man into custody in the alley behind the buildings before he was transported from the scene in the ambulance.
