“Red Phone, what is going on with all the construction out there on East Main Avenue and will it be finished before school starts?”

Red Phone: Dear What’s Going On, Red Phone contacted Scott Creer, senior civil engineer with the city, who said the construction on East Main Avenue involves two separate projects.

The construction near El Toro Elementary School involves widening the south side of East Main Avenue,” he said. “This work is being done by D.R. Horton in conjunction with their residential development commonly referred to as San Savigno.” The majority of the work has been completed as of this week, he added.

“The construction activity near Live Oak High School involves widening the north side of the existing roadway to accommodate a pedestrian pathway from Condit Road to Casa Lane. KB Homes made a commitment to do this work as part of residential development on Diana Avenue. This work has been held up the past few weeks while the construction plans are revised to address unexpected field conditions. Work on this project should begin again next week and be completed prior to the start of school.”

There you have it, good caller.

Drivers should pay more attention

Dear Red Phone, I’m calling regarding the person who complained about having to make a U-turn at Condit Road and Tennant Avenue to get to U.S. 101 north. After having watched the construction of the new bridge over 101 for over a year and a half, one would think that common sense and the signage would direct a competent driver to the northbound access to 101.”

Red Phone: Dear Concerned Driver, one would think, but Red Phone never underestimates the incompetence of some drivers. Just the other day, Red Phone saw a truck stopped right on top of the “Keep Clear” writing on Main Avenue. Guess he assumed it didn’t apply to him, only other motorists.

Good caller, hope that helps.
