The Santa Teresa Division dual is the first between the Morgan
Hill rivals
MORGAN HILL
Live Oak and Sobrato square off in their first varsity dual at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Senior Night at Live Oak High School.
The Acorns (3-1) are tied for first place in the Santa Teresa Division with two duals left. The Bulldogs (2-2) are second.
Saturday, the Central Coast Section Girls Championships are being held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oak Grove High School. The field includes Sobrato junior Alyssa Williams at 122 pounds and, from Live Oak, junior Amy Fearnside (108) and freshman Isabella Fernandez (114), who are ranked fourth and fifth in the section, respectively.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the inaugural CIF Girls State Invitational held Feb. 25-26 in Lemoore.
GIRLS SOCCER
LOHS 4, Westmont 0
Megan Rauschnot recorded her first hat trick at the prep level, and Amber Thomas also scored Thursday as the host Acorns stretched their lead to two games in the Mount Hamilton Division.
It was a stark contrast to their Jan. 4 league opener, when the teams played to a scoreless tie. Live Oak (8-2-3, 6-1-1) began the second half of league play much stronger this time against Westmont (2-9-3, 0-6-2), building a 3-0 advantage in the first half.
The defending champion Acorns have won three straight.
SHS 1, Santa Teresa 1
Janelle Cisneros tallied her first goal of the season Thursday for Sobrato, which wrapped up a solid week against the last two unbeaten teams in the Mount Hamilton.
Two days after stunning Leigh 2-1, the Bulldogs (5-3-6, 3-2-3) returned to the Outdoor Sports Center and earned a key draw against a Saints club that beat them 2-0 three weeks ago.
Sobrato and Leigh are knotted in fourth place with the Bulldogs holding a tie-breaker. They trail Leland by half a game.
Santa Teresa (5-3-6, 3-1-4) moved into second behind Live Oak.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
LOHS 39, Yerba Buena 31
Fa Saulala led all scorers with 21 points, and the Acorns earned their third win in four games Thursday at Yerba Buena.
Emily Conlan added six points, and Meghan Perez five, helping Live Oak (5-14, 4-5) pull within two games of second place in the West Valley Division.
The Acorns eclipsed their win total from 2009-10.
Karen Cruda had seven points to lead the Aztec Warriors (0-17, 0-9).
CLUB RUGBY
Santa Rosa 29, Live Oak 5
Senior hooker Daniel Johnson squeezed in a try just before the final whistle, but that was all the scoring the LO ruggers mustered Saturday.
Coming off a big opening win over Pleasanton, the LO ruggers were outplayed by Santa Rosa, continually losing possession in set pieces and at tackle breakdowns.
