Police arrested a Morgan Hill man on suspicion of auto burglary Wednesday morning, after a resident reported seeing him acting suspiciously in the neighborhood.
Police received a call about 7:15 a.m. from a resident in the area of 260 Berry Court, who reported they saw a suspicious person looking inside parked vehicles, Morgan Hill Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said. The man was pushing a shopping cart full of boxes behind the apartment complex.
When officers arrived, they located a man later identified as Jerry Fydrych, 25, of Morgan Hill, in the parking lot behind a building at 17800 Crest Ave., police said.
During the investigation, officers found that Fydrych was on probation for drug-related charges, Neumayer said. He was allegedly in possession of items that were stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the area, and was arrested on suspicion of auto burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property and violation of probation. He was booked into Santa Clara County jail.
“In light of the many auto burglaries that have occurred in the city, this arrest is a great example of citizens assisting the Morgan Hill Police Department in combating crime in our neighborhoods,” Neumayer said. “We encourage citizens to help us fight crime by reporting any suspicious persons or activities.”
