Live Oak’s football didn’t just win the first game of their regular season – they dominated Silver Creek the entire game.

Following a first quarter, 21-point barrage, Live Oak never let up on both sides of ball – scoring often and holding Silver Creek on defense.

Despite a few miscues defensively and offensively, including two fumbles, the Acorns showed strong teamwork throughout the game to start their season 1-0.

“(The Raiders) came out with pride in the second quarter and hit us in the mouth,” LO head coach Rick Booth said after the game. “We lost containment.”

But thanks in part to a 229-yard rushing night by senior Dustin Muhn, the Acorn offense rose to the challenge and kept the game out of reach.

“He just does what he does best,” Booth said. “He is a very underrated. He’s one of those (players) people don’t know about.”

In the first quarter of play, Live Oak hit the ground running scoring two touchdowns in only four plays. By half-time, the Acorns were leading 21 – 10.

The Acorns wasted no time drawing first blood, scoring on a three-play, 66-yard drive with 10:58 left in the first quarter.

Following a 64-yard run on the first play of the game, Kevin Abbot bulldozed the ball into the end zone on a two-yard run for a quick 6-0 lead.

On Live Oak’s next possession, Muhn went on an 83-yard tear into the promise land and a 13-0 Acorn lead.

By the second quarter, Silver Creek regained their composure from the initial onslaught, and scored their only touchdown of game cutting the Acorn lead to 21-10 with 9:55 to play in the first half.

The Acorns’ defense struggled to contain the run, giving up several big plays. But the big men shined when it mattered and kept Silver Creek out of the end zone.

Live Oak’s Josh Smith rallied to keep the lead intact, blocking a Raider field goal with 4:03 remaining in the first half.

Muhn put up another 12 points for the Acorns in the second half with powerful runs. The first in the form of a 21-yard sprint across the goal line and another 52-yard dash to the endzone in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
