Bell’s victory helped the Live Oak boys swim to an easy 118-65 victory. Ryan Gautschi (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Justin Short (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and Cameron Peachey (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke) were double winners for the Acorn boys.

Meanwhile, the LO girls got a few clutch victories in the last few events to edge Salinas 96-90 in last week’s action.

Trailing until the last three events, LO got wins from Ronni Gautschi (100 backstroke), Jessica Poon (100 breaststroke) and the 400 free relay team of Gautschi, Laura Shope, Laura Melroy and Amy Marshall to pull out the victory. Shope and Melroy both also added a pair of individual victories for the Acorn girls.

Yesterday, the LO girls easily beat visiting North Salinas in a dual meet. The Vikings have no boys team.

LO track

Billy Wong, Dustin Muhn and Brandon Powell were double winners as the Live Oak High track team won the boys competition 92 1/2-43 1/2 in a dual meet against visiting Salinas on Thursday. Wong won the 1,600 and 3,200, Muhn won the 100 and the long jump, and Powell won both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Meanwhile, the LO girls fell to the Vikings by a 74-62 score despite a double win by Cobbie Jones in the 800 and 1,600.

LO boys tennis

Led by victories at all four singles slots, the Live Oak High boys tennis team routed visiting Gilroy on Thursday. KC McElroy, Jacob Haim, Kevin Parsons and Yrbyn Davis all won for the Acorn boys, who also got wins from the brothers doubles team of Nick and Eric Matsumoto. Gilroy’s lone victory came in doubles from Carlos Fernandez and Matt Arvizu.

LO also beat Hollister-SB 6-1 on Wednesday and lost to Salinas 6-1 on Monday.

LO boys volleyball

After winning its third straight league match last week, LO (11-9 overall, 5-4 in TCAL) dropped a pair this week, falling to first-place Monterey in three games and dropping a four-game match to Hollister-SB.
